Super Cyber Monday Special: FREE Quilt Books!

As I write this blog post on this lovely Cyber Monday afternoon, so far I have gotten a heap of discount offers in my in-box–everything from lip balms and soy candles to ear plugs and temporary mustache tattoos–but I haven’t gotten anything for free. Maybe I can start a new trend…

I have three fantastic books on hand courtesy of Stash Books that I would love to give away to three people. If these books are not on your wish list, they should be! In my little Santa’s sack I have:

Whether you are a budding or experienced free-motion quilter, if you are looking for motifs with a modern twist, you will want this book! Angela taped several segments for QA TV earlier this fall, and she makes complicated motifs fun and easy to accomplish.

.

Written by Alissa Haight Carlton, one of the founders of the Modern Quilt movement, this book is packed with 20 contemporary quilt projects that would make those on your gift list happy little campers, indeed.

.

Whether you want to whip up a cute clutch to complement a holiday outfit or stitch a tote in an afternoon for a gift, with 19 projects that yield about 75 variations, you wont run out of ideas!

My Giveaway Question:

Are you taking the handmade pledge this holiday season by stitching holiday decorations or quilting some gifts? Write in the comments field what you plan to accomplish this holiday season (and if you have posted a picture to your blog of anything you’ve made, share the link) and I will randomly select three winners–each to win one of these books–on Wednesday.

  1. This is my year round pledge!!! At the moment I am making a kitchen runner, hot pad, oven mitts, and an apron for my nieces…. this is just a start and I had better get my thinking cap on for the other gifts!

  2. I am making bears for four children whose Dad died out of his old workshirts. I am also making pot holders. Also, making pillow cases for some new members of my family. I had better get busy!

  3. Yes, I am making plans for a homemade Christmas. With the exception of books, I try to give homemade gifts each year. This year will be somewhat smaller, as a broken ankle has slowed me down, but I love the feeling of creating for the people I love.

  4. My college love found me after a 40 year lack of communication and I have been comissioned to make a Turtle wall hanging for him to give to his daughter who happens to rescue turtles. He will get a handpainted tie unexpected.

  5. Hi, I am making many handmade gifts this year for many different family members. Pillow cases in fun fabric for the grandkids, napkins for daughters, table runner too. I would love to win the free motion quilting book. Thanks for offering this give away.

  6. This is a busy time of year! What are you making this year Pokey?

I have quilts and aprons in the works for the holidays as well as a number of things to refill my etsy shop. But before the holidays get here I’ve had a few weddings and coach gifts to make! I made rice bags and a table runner and posted about them on my blog: http://somethingcleveraboutnothing.blogspot.com

    Thanks for asking!

  7. I am recycling, repurposing and refashioning everything I already have. I am creating new clothing, accessories, pillows, blankets, home decor, toys, jewelry, mixed media, collage, art and crafts using my stash of supplies and various techniques that I am teaching myself from hard copy books, magazines, DVDS, patterns that I already have; and also from free pdf ebooks, bookmarked websites and blogs online. I am learning to be a frugal, thankful, joyful, creative fashionista artisan!

  8. I want to make something special for two special people on my list — my autistic son’s speech therapist and our housekeeper who has been with us for many years. I would love to make them each a colorful lap quilt, but I have a feeling time is not my friend in this endeavor. May end up being table runners or tote bags. I just want them to know how much I value them!

  9. I just finished a lap size quilt as a donation for a non-profit fundraiser later this week. For Christmas gifts, I am making aprons and pillowcases as well as working on a t-shirt quilt for a friend’s daughter. Happy Holidays to all!

  10. I am making a redwork Christmas stocking for our newest grandaughter’s 1st Christmas, some gift tag ornaments and trying to finish a baby afghan to donate to charity.

  11. I am making mug mats for my grandaughters out of fabric they painted this summer. We used white school glue for resists and got some wonderful sun prints as well.

  12. Just finished 10 quilted stockings for foster kids in our county. My quilt guild’s annual goal is 200. Also making scarves for the kids. I’m also making a quilt for our community quilt project. Thanks for the giveaway, Pokey.

  13. Always like to give hand made gifts, and this year I’ll be making some mug mats for my quilty girlfriends, as well as some other small bags etc. Also working on a baby quilt for my gran nephew to be and finishing some Christmas stockings for my other gran nephews and nieces. Busy time of year for sewing, maybe next year I’ll start sooner!!!!

  14. I’m currently making an oven mitt and potholder set with a Paris theme for my friend who loves everything French. Also going to make some pillows for gifts this year. I wanted to do a quilt too but I started a bit too late. Recently purchased the Free-Motion Quilting book, its fab!
    Thank you Pokey!

  15. I have made aprons…twister Christmas tree wall hangings… pillow cases…. crocheted dish clothes…crocheted scarfs…. knitted fingerless gloves…. plan to make duffel bag… ornaments for all 39 member’s of my family every year since forever has been homemade Christmas from my house.

  16. I’m finishing up three quilts and I am making 12 felted mitten ornaments!! Busy, busy, busy. Love your ponderings Pokey and I’m counting the days until the Cincy IQA!

  17. I am definitely going hand-made this year, as I have for the past several. Each year I find a ‘go-to’ idea and make it in variants for each of the special people on my list. This year: Mug Rugs. Fast and easy to modify to fit any individual’s personality. A touch of hand stitching here and there, a bead or two popped on for surprise and voila, a new variety. I love making these little gifts, and I know my friends and family will love receiving them.

  18. I am making more handmade gifts this year. Not only am I giving gifts, but giving part of myself to my friends and family. Thank you for the giveaway!

  19. It’s rare when I actually purchase gifts! The big surprise this year….I am making dolls and doll clothes for the little girls in our neighborhood to be left on thier doorsteps on Christmas Eve.

  20. I’m sewing like crazy to accomplish my goal of making a handmade gift for everyone on my list. Hopefully I’ll get them all done in time! Thanks sew much for this chance to win :-)

  21. I have Angela Walters’ book. It’s great! I’d love to have the other two. I’m making some gifts for the holidays. I’m sewing up a storm and wish I could cut and sew faster! Thanks for doing this.

    • My sewing machine has been humming. Ready to ship – a quilt for my sister, a tote for my niece’s crochet projects, placemats for Mom and my aunt. Still in process a scrappy quilt for my table, zippered pouches and gift card holders. Enjoying every moment!

  22. I take the hand made pledge every year. Instead of going out with the crowds on Black Friday, I spend my day at my sewing machine. I’ve made mug rugs, table toppers and a quilt of my mother-in-laws house, so far. Would love to win Anglea Walters book for inspiration! Win or not – hope ya’ll have a wonderful holiday!

  23. I’ll never be able to make everything, mostly because there are so many other makers on my gift list that I am always giving them supplies and books and other things to enable their making :) But at the same time I’ll never have a year when I am not making a substantial amount of my holiday either, whether it be the cards or the decor or at least some of the gifts. My health does not allow me to do all of it, but every year I try to add more to the collection and make at least some of the gifts. This year is certainly no exception. Some people are just getting IOUs for more major projects as I can’t do too many big things at once and I had a family of 5 move into a new house (the first move in the children’s lives) this month so lots of cozy new I-have-my-own-bedroom gifts are called for but it will take me time to get them all done and they are happy to wait until after the holidays for the big presents :)

  24. I’m not doing all handmade, but everybody on my list is getting at least one handmade item. I’ve read all these books but only one of them is on my Christmas list as being a NEED IT NOW thing! Thank you for the giveaway!

  25. This year i have caught the knitting bug so it will be handknitted stuff for my family.I have lofty goals and lets see if i am able to do them all.
    Aish.

  26. I have taken a renewed interest in my UFO’s and will finish 3 wallhangings to give as gifts. Also I’m finishing a quilt and a few cell phone holders.

  27. I have made several sets of fleece scarf and glove combos, 3 totes, 2 cell phone holders, several ornaments and am still working on a quilt. Probably will do a couple of stuffed toys for the wee ones on the list. Would love to win any of these great books. Sorry, don’t have a blog to post pix on.

  28. I knitted scarves last year, so I am planning to sew gifts this year (better hurry!!). I want to make key fobs, loyalty card wallets, and oven mitts. Thanks for the great giveaway – Santa better watch out!!

  29. I finished three quilts for foster children in our county and have already donated them! I have quilts begun for my kids and hubby, but I seriously don’t think they’ll be ready for Christmas!

  30. Yes! Working on hotmats for my daughters, and mini quilts too, if time allows. May be an apron/hat set for my little niece, too!

  31. Just spent 4 hours stitching rows of t-shirt blocks together for a gift for a grandfather to give his
9 year-old grandson. Still have some work to finish tomorrow. But using the serger, so it’s much
    faster.

  32. I actually have almost everything finished that I planned to make for gifts this year!! I made some coasters & crocheted bowls & painted some ceramic plates for spoonrests. I still need to make a small quilty something as a thank you gift to my secret pal …. then I am done!

  33. I am knitting a Christmas stocking for my newest little grandson who is just 7 weeks old. It will match the ones I made for his brother and mother. I made his dad one when he was a child, although that was a crocheted one. What a surprise that he treasures it! Thanks for hosting a giveaway!

  34. I try to make most of my gifts, rice bags this year, aprons, table runners, tea towels. I quilt, embroider and crochet.

  35. I am making soup koozies as an “extra” gift for everyone on my list. They are microwaveable “holders” for hot soup or oatmeal and picking unique fabrics for each person is fun.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  36. I am learning to free motion quilt and these books will help with the quilting of my holiday wall hanging. Thanks for an early gift.

  37. I am making most of our Christmas this year, since I haven’t been working since May. I’ve had plenty of time to work on them. I made a kings quilt for mother in law, queen size for son, aprons, handbages and hats/scarf sets. I don’t have any posted to my blog yet. Will after Christmas, don’t want any of them to see until then. I would love to win Angela Walters FMQ book. Actually any of those books would be great. Thanks so much Pokey for this giveaway.

  38. I decided last Saturday that I would make quilts for my three children for Christmas, so … I have finished one top and three quarters of another, plus two landscape wallhangings that I will give away too. I still have one more quilt to go and another wall hanging! Math at book on Modern Minimal would be a good one, as well as the one on machine quilting, as I am always looking for ways to improve my skills.
    Thanks Pokey,
    Ana

  39. I am about half way done sewing the tops for 10 February themed table runners. Then I need to get going on the quilting. The goal is to get them done before next Wed….ahhh! I came up with this lofty idea to make everyone on my gift list a table runner for each month. If I can get them all done this year I’ll have my Christmas shopping done for the next 11 years! Wish me luck!

  40. How great is this chance to win something! Fits right into my budget, lol. I’m a little behind this year but I hope to get a dress up garment bag filled with costume jewelry and play clothes done for my only granddaughter. She is just at that age and her mom likes to keep her organized. The only thing on my blog is last year’s miniature dollhouse quilts and furniture we made for her. http://thedistoriatedquilter.blogspot.com/2011/12/miniature-quilts-dollhouse-size.html

  41. I just finished a crab baby quilt for a friend which is my first try at designing my own pattern and am desperately trying to finish fabric bowls for my 2 daughters for every holiday throughout the year (12 bowls in all!). Then I’ll start their quilted wine totes. Plus, a dog throw for the car and a coat for my new grandpuppy. And, or course, I’ll still be adding to that list until Christmas Day with more things to make! I’d love either the free motion quilting book or the bags book.

  42. For starters I’ve made umteen Christmas ornaments (over 200 with some help), a couple of table runners, 2 wall hangings and trying to finish up a quilt I started 6 yrs. ago and 3 small UFO’s that I had to set aside for now and intermittent computer problems competing with my time! Happy Holidays!! LOL

  43. Quilting a t-shirt quilt for my daughter-in-law. If I have the time, I will also make her a fun apron. I have already given smocked pincushions to my sisters and mom.

  44. Yes, ma’am I am! First off is a knitted no pattern sweater for my little art dog, Sancho (yes it’s Texas, but there’s a cool night or two here & there); pink skull appliqués on black bath towel set, finishing up baby’s blanket & one each for “big” sister & brother. That might just be THIS week! Ha!! :-) oh yeah, almost forgot the ear-muff hat request – better add that to the make to do list!

  45. Laminated bags and cat quilts..everyone else has their own big bed quilt by now!Now the cats can have their own!I use scraps to make cat nip bags for stockings and gifts.

  46. I have made two fabric necklaces, a dress up dollie, two softie rabbits, two dollie quilts …. and need to make a owl softie and quilt another dollie quilt — it’s taken a lot of time but hope to have a handmade gift for each grandniece.

  47. I’m actually making a couple of gifts for Christmas. My granddaughters wanted bags just like Nana’s. One wanted read and purple, the other wanted red and pink. Kaffe Fassett had the perfect fabric with all the colors. I created the purse flaps in the individual colors. Will have them finished in time for Christmas.
